What are wrinkle relaxers and how do they work?
Wrinkle relaxers such as Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau®, and DAXXIFY® are injectable neuromodulators containing botulinum toxin type A. They temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity, helping soften wrinkles created by repeated facial movement. Although these products work through a similar mechanism, their formulations and dosing are not interchangeable. Your provider can recommend an option based on your anatomy, treatment history, goals, and individual response.
When will I see results?
Results develop gradually rather than immediately. Depending on the product and individual response, changes may begin to become noticeable within several days, with the full effect generally assessed around two weeks after treatment. Onset can vary between patients and products.
How long do results last?
Longevity varies depending on the product, treatment area, dose, muscle strength, metabolism, and individual response. Many traditional neuromodulator treatments last approximately 3–4 months, while some patients may experience shorter or longer duration. DAXXIFY® may provide longer-lasting results in some patients, although duration varies.
How many treatments will I need, and how often should I have them?
Most patients receive wrinkle relaxer treatments periodically as muscle activity gradually returns. For many patients, this means treatment approximately every 3–4 months, although your schedule should be individualized based on the product used, treatment area, goals, and how long your results last.
What is the recovery time or downtime?
Wrinkle relaxer treatments generally require minimal downtime, and most patients can return to normal daily activities shortly afterward. Temporary redness, small bumps, tenderness, swelling, or bruising around injection sites can occur. Your provider will give you specific post-treatment instructions based on the areas treated.
